Painted from life in 2020, during lockdown, on one of the first canvases I stretched myself. A friend had brought me a mask from Venice, and I had painted a David Bowie lightning bolt across it. I later broke the mask, so this painting is the only record of it. It’s looser than I first intended, but to me that makes the swoosh feel all the more real.
