About Me

I’m Aalim Chowdhry, an artist based in the heart of London. My practice centers around oil painting, drawing deeply from classical and surrealist traditions. Influenced by the dreamlike worlds of Giorgio de Chirico, Salvador Dalí, and René Magritte, my work often seeks to blur the boundaries between the real and the symbolic — between memory, myth, and modernity.

I studied Mechanical Engineering at Loughborough University, but my passion for visual art has remained a constant and defining force throughout my life. My approach combines technical precision with imaginative exploration, creating works that invite contemplation and emotional resonance.

I’ve been painting for ten years now, mostly in oil, though drawing has always been just as close to me. My training leans on classical technique, including recreations from Bargue’s drawing course, and recently I’ve been experimenting with alla prima for commissions specifically. I moved to London two years ago, and since then I’ve been working from Marylebone, making both my commissions and my surrealist pieces there. A few of my paintings have been submitted to The Marylebone gallery, where they’re currently being exhibited.

I’ve exhibited previously in Leicester and across England, and continue to develop a growing body of work that investigates themes such as identity, absurdity, isolation, and time. Each piece begins with drawing — from life, from memory, or from dreams — and evolves into carefully layered oil compositions.

Currently, I work from a studio in central London and am always seeking new opportunities to collaborate, exhibit, and engage with audiences across the UK and beyond.
