Inspired by Fahrelnissa Zeid, an artist I had wanted to see for years before her retrospective at Tate Modern. On a school trip my teacher mentioned her in passing, and he was surprised that I already knew her work. She painted huge, vivid, intricate kaleidoscopic compositions. I wanted to capture her geometry without painting a whole wall of it, so here two faces break into coloured shards and collide.
